Sails and Summits was founded in 2006 when Sue and Stuart, Esseness’s owners and skippers, decided to create their own skippered yacht charter holiday company. It was borne out of a passion for helping others to discover the wonders of sailing, the sea and the local wildlife.
Stuart had spent 30 plus years in the outdoors as an outdoor pursuits instructor and for him this was a natural progression. He gained his Cruising Instructor qualification in 2010 and shortly after added his Yachtmaster Instructor ticket. In 2017 he was invited by the RYA to become a Cruising Instructor Trainer, and so is one of the highest qualified instructors on the West Coast of Scotland.
Both have sailed all their lives, and over the years have clocked up many sea miles and a vast experience in the coast around Britain, Mediterranean, down the Atlantic, across the Atlantic, in the Canaries and the Carribbean. They were also involved with the Ocean Youth Trust NW for many years as volunteers.
Competent and confident sailors and instructors, they love nothing better than sharing their knowledge of sailing and the environment in which they live. They will gently take you through the rudiments of sailing to competency, hopefully getting you hooked on the wonders of our Blue Planet along the way.
Sue demonstrates her skills and talents in the galley, creating mouth-watering and sustaining meals, freshly prepared using as much local and ‘in season’ produce as possible, both of which Scotland excels in, and happily rises to the challenges of any dietary requirement her guests may request. She is passionate about “no food miles”, no “palm oil”, no “GM” and aiming to become ‘plastic free’, the latter being quite a challenge!
Safety is paramount, and your comfort and enjoyment is always at the forefront on any holiday you book with us. Fulfilling your ‘dreams’ is their commitment.
